IN THE HOT SEAT AND IN THE HOME

Formula 1 fan could soon compete against racing aces like Kimi Raikonen and Lewis Hamilton, all from the comfort of their living room, thanks to a new game being developed by a company from the Netherlands.
Iopener Media is developing a patented system that makes use of real-time GPS data from the racing events and pumps it out to a compatible games consoles and PCs, allowing players to a compete against their favorite F1 racers.
‘ It is clear that the next trend in gaming is going to be bringing real objects in to the virtual world; palhing not against other gamers, but people doing the real things. You can compete against the best of the best,” said Andy Lurling, founder of iOpener Media.
Iopener’s technology works by gathering real-time data from the car during a race. The car, of course, would have to be fitted with a small computer, transmitter, and a GPS receiver.
To gather GPS data, the game technology employs an enhanced GPS system known as different GPS – accurate to within 10 meters –, which is generally used for systems that require precision, such as an air navigation or shipping.
